What happened at Northside this week?

Well, last night was a far cry from our usual crowd. 12 dancers in the hall. While we had fun - it is just not sustainable.
Too many apologies to count. Viv won the members draw. We hope to see many of you back on the dance floor soon.

Well, it was pretty cold last night. Still had 18 dancers in the hall. Quite a few apologies. Good to see Cheryl & Ken back after their recent travels. Many on the sick list for various reasons - we all wish you well. We are still progressing with Mainstream for the learners, but we will have to repeat for those that were not here. Sandy won the members draw - so it's back to $5 next week. I'll be glad when the weather improves and numbers return.

Well, we've had bigger nights at Northside, but we still danced 2 squares. Exactly 16 dancers in the hall.
The learners are getting a start into the Mainstream moves. The members draw stayed unclaimed and will jackpot for next week.
I would like the Learners to keep in a mind , there is a dance for them at the 70th Anniversary of the Square Dance Society.
10 am at the Burnie Brae centre, Chermside - 7th of September, see the Flyer at our club.

What a great night at Northside last night. 26 dancers in the hall, but we only danced 2 squares all night.
Great to have Chris & Helen with us, they also brought friends from W.A. - Bruce & Janice. They seemed to really enjoy the night.
This was the first week back at our regular time of 7pm for Plus - we had 2 squares for that. The new dancers have learned the first couple of Mainstream moves.
The members draw was unclaimed, so it will jackpot for next week. Our next Party Night is on the August 29th with a theme of LOVE - mark the date in your calendar.

A lot of fun on Thursday night at Northside. 29 dancers in the hall. I love the buzz in the hall when we have that many people. Good to have Mike & Di back after their recent cruise. Due to some people having been away, we are still finishing off the Basic program. I played with Spin Chain Thru from 2-Faced lines - I think it may only be me that enjoyed it. Darryl won the members draw.
PLEASE NOTE: We are going back to our regular dance format next week. PLUS at 7pm and MAINSTREAM / LEARNERS at 7.30pm.
I'm looking forward to teaching the Mainstream movements.

What a great night on Thursday. Yes, numbers were down, but it was just a really fun night. 16 dancers in the hall, and we did dance 2 squares for a lot of it. The learners class is now 14 weeks in - take off 2 weeks for a Party Night and a Public Holiday - so effectively 12 weeks - but they have done the Callerlab Basic program. There were a few learners away, so they will finish next week. Goody won the members draw, so it's back to $5 next week. Remember, next week is the same routine we've been doing - learners start at 6.45pm. But the week after (4th July), we are going back to our regular routine - Plus at 7pm and Learners/Mainstream at 7.30pm, finishing at 9pm.

Awesome night at Northside last night. 27 dancers in the hall - we did dance 3 squares at least a couple of brackets.
Great to have Dave & Sandy back on the dance floor - it's been over 7 months since they were last with us.
I'm so impressed with how our newer dancers are coming along - they have nearly finished the Callerlab Basic program in the last 12 weeks
By the end of the month, they will have Basic under their belts. Daryl won the members draw, so it will reset for next week.
As of the first week in July (July 4th), we will be going back to our regular dance schedule.
Plus at 7pm then alternate brackets of Mainstream and learning Mainstream from 7.30 pm and finishing up at 9pm.

Numbers a little down at Northside tonight. We had a total of 20 dancers in the hall which included the newer dancers. Had a square and a half of Mainstream /Plus dancers and about 7 Newer dancers. The members draw jackpots to $10 next week - Dave would have won if he'd been there.
The newer dancers worked on Allemande Thars tonight. Wrong Way, Slip the Clutch, Shoot the Star (and Full around, Chain the ladies to an Allemande Thar, etc. etc. Regardless of numbers, I had a great time calling to those in attendance.

What a fabulous night at Northside Promenaders last night. 29 regular dancers and 8 of our new dancers. The night was alternate brackets of Easy Level, Mainstream & Plus. We danced 3 squares often. While I had a sore throat, I kept my distance and stayed on stage all night - my voice was a little huskier than usual - some might say sexier, but I'll leave that for others to decide . The atmosphere was through the roof. I had comments from our newer dancers saying how much they enjoyed the pace of a straight dance night with no teaching - They are all really doing so well - by the end of June they'll nearly be dancing full Mainstream. William L. (a newer dancer) won the members draw with Party Night bonus.
Ken won the Fruit & Vege tray. Elsa won the Chocolate box and Freda took home a bottle of wine. There was so much supper - we'll have some chocolate biscuits next week as well. Great to see everybody making an effort to dress for the theme - great costumes all round. Thanks to Scott & Sam, Helen for the pics and video. I had a great time calling for you all. See pics from the night HERE

A great night at Northside Promenaders last night. 29 regular square dancers with 11 of our newer dancers. Great to have Allen & Robyn Kerr with us last night.
They have been good friends over many years and great to have them visiting our club. Many of you know that Elsa used to dance at their club in Canberra.
Allen did a few calls and we also did a few together. The members draw did not go off, so it will jackpot for next week with a Party Night bonus as well.
Don't forget, next week is our first party night of the year. It's a Country Party night - Dress to theme - please bring a plate.
No teaching, just dancing - alternate brackets from 6.45pm - Supper at 8.45pm. Bring some spare change for the raffle. I'll do some country tunes.

I really enjoyed the dance night at Northside tonight. We had 13 Mainstream dancers and 9 of our newer dancers. 2 squares for all of the teaching sessions and 1 square for Mainstream and Plus. Really enjoying how well the new dancers are learning. Desiree won the members draw, so it resets to $5 next week.
We will change our format a little in July. We'll go back to Plus at 7pm. Then, alternate Learner and Mainstream brackets until 9pm.
Also, it's only 2 weeks until our Country Square Dance Party. Start at 6.45pm, dance until 8.45pm, then Supper. No teaching, just dancing.
Bring a plate - dress in your favourite Country outfit (whatever country means to you) there will be a raffle and lots of Country Music.

Well, a bit of a slow night at Northside - We had a great time, just numbers down a little. We only had 4 of our newer dancers and 12 of our regular dancers. We only danced 2 squares a couple of times. Having said, that our learners are doing fabulously well. The members draw is still jackpotting and will be up to $20 next week.

Well, it's been a rough week for me personally, but "the show must go on", as they say - and it was a pretty good night - well.... I might have made a few more faux pas than usual. We had 16 of our long term dancers with us and 8 of our new friends. 2 new starters tonight - while we had already closed for new beginners, there were mitigating circumstances for these 2. The members draw would have been Denice, but unfortunately she's on the sick list this week. So, it will jackpot for next week.
Our new dancers are dancing so well, I am so proud of them.
4 weeks until our Country Party night - Bring a plate - there will be a Raffle and some "Real Country" music - dress the part and kick up your heels - 30th May
No teaching that night, just dancing - 6.45pm until 8.45pm then Supper.

25th April 2024 - No dancing due to the Anzac Day Public Holiday
18th April 2024
Another excellent night at Northside. 19 regular dancers and 9 new dancers in the hall. We did dance 3 squares early on. The new dancers are coming on so well.
Another new dancer elected to join the club last night. I love the unsolicited commitment that our new friends have shown this year.
The members draw would have been won by Ron P. last night, but alas they are on our current sick list - it will jackpot for next time.
There is no dancing next week due to the ANZAC day public holiday - see you all again on the 2nd of May.
On the 5th Thursday in May (30th), we will have our first party night of the year.
It will be a country night - bring a plate - there will be a raffle and plenty of Country music.
Start at 6.45pm with alternate brackets of dancing (minimal learning) during the night - Supper at 8.45pm.

Another great night at Northside, our newer dancers are doing really well - next week will be a review night - we've been going hard for a few weeks - time to go over everything we have done so far. 18 regular club members in the hall with 9 of our newer learners. Joan won the members drawer - it will reset for next week. So far, 8 of our new learners have opted to join the club and buy a badge - a couple of the guys now have also been asking about bolo ties.
I brought in some that I don't wear a lot. I'm not going to try and curb their enthusiasm - it's great to see them enjoying themselves.

What a fabulous night at Northside for the 5th night of new learners. 17 regular dancers with 10 newer dancers. Our new friends are all dancing so well.
2 have opted to join the club already, I'll have their badges next week. 1 of our new dancers is even looking for bolo ties.
Because I forgot last weeks members draw, we had 2 draws tonight. Daryl won last weeks and Tara won this weeks draw.
We have officially closed for brand new dancers and will be attempting to progress our new friends towards club level dancing - building week by week.
Non-stop dancing is the way I'm attempting to give everyone more of the dancing they want, Learners, Mainstream with 1 Plus bracket.
I hope every club member is happy with the way it's going. See you all next week.

Easter Thursday, 4th night of Newer dancers class. Numbers down a little, but quite a successful night. 13 Regular dancers with 8 Learners.
We did get through quite a few new movements. I'm quite happy with how the class is progressing.
I actually forgot to do the members draw, I was too busy concentrating on the dancing - we'll do 2 next week.
Enjoy the Easter break everyone, see you back on the dance floor next Thursday.

3rd Night of the new beginner class. 19 regular club members at the hall with 14 newer dancers. For 6 of those, it was their first night ever. Balancing the teaching of newer dancers and calling for our regular dancers is proving the trickiest part for me to get right. One of the newer dancers came up to me at the end of the night and said he had so much fun and couldn't wait until next week. Diane won the members drawer, so it will reset for next week. Cheryl has decided to join our club and I have ordered her badge. We are dancing next week (Easter Thursday) I thought it was too early to close the club for a public holiday, considering the number of new dancers we have attracted. Thank you to all the club members who have talked their friends into coming along - word of mouth is still the best advertising there is. (We will however, be closing for ANZAC day on the 25th April) but see you all next Thursday (28th March) for more fun.

2nd Night of the Learners class. 17 of our existing dancers were there. Of the 15 newer dancers from last week - 7 were not there this week (but some are planning to be there next week) but we had another 3 brand new dancers this week (although 2 can't be there for the next 2 weeks) so we had 11 newer dancers this week. Getting through quite a bit - the big movement for these nights is Grand Slide - it looks great when they get it. The members draw did not go off, so will jackpot for next week. I want to thank our long time dancers for jumping in and helping with the newer dancers, they do appreciate your help.

Well, what a night at Northside - lots of dancers every where. A combination of magazine ads - word of mouth and one of our dancers advertised on-line with the "stitch" app. We had 40 dancers in the hall. 25 of our club members plus 2 fairly new dancers and 13 brand new learners. Everyone seemed to have a good time, the hall was buzzing all night and I was certainly on a high. First 3/4 of an hour for the new dancers with enthusiastic Angels. Then alternate brackets for the rest of the night. Just so much fun. I don't have a crystal ball - next week will be the proof - how many will come back. Apparently there are still some contacts that could not make last night and we'll see them next week - let's hope. Couldn't ask for a better start to a new class. Thank you to all the club members who jumped in at every opportunity last night to make the new people feel welcome - this is what it's gonna take to keep them dancing.
See the lineup of dancers waiting to pay and then a couple of shots round the hall. Viv won the members draw last night - and now she's off on a cruise for a week for Alan Evan's 50th year of calling. See the pics HERE
Great to have Denice back dancing, she's back after her cruise. Also good to have the Ron back on the dance floor. Best wishes to all our members who are on the sick list, we wish you well in your recoveries.

What great night at our 20th Birthday Party.
(this is also my 30th year of calling) we had over 30 dancers in the hall - we did dance 3 squares a couple of times - but it was a very warm night. We had a number of Visitors for the occasion - June & Howard (Wavell) - Nev, Bev & Sonia (Suncoasters) - Rob & Elaine (Caboolture, but wearing our Badge). Great also to have my daughter Chrissy, Lorna W. and John & Jeanne B - all former club dancers. It was a nice surprise to see Therese & Marty. Unfortunately due to illness & travel, we missed the company of some of our regular dancers, we hope they'll be back soon. We danced easy level up to Plus, everyone looked like they were having fun. The cake looked great and there was plenty of supper. Thanks to everyone who brought a plate. We made it a free night at the door, and so the raffle was well supported by all attendees. Goody won the raffle (again) Marty won 2nd prize (we hadn't seen Marty for some time)
See the photos - 1 with everybody in attendance and a great photo of the 5 who were there on the first night 28th January 2004.
More pictures of the dancers - great to see so many in the club colour BLUE. The night flew by, suddenly it was supper time and then time to go home . Thank you to everyone.

Another warm night at Northside. The sick list and travellers list is extensive. We had 15 dancers in the hall. Mostly 1 square, but we did do a 6 couple rectangle bracket early on. Denice would have won the members draw, but she is one of our travellers. Looking forward to our 20th Birthday party next week. Please bring a plate - Blue is the club colour, so some variation on that theme would be great. There will be cake & raffle prizes. I'm expecting a number of visitors who used to dance with us.
Also remember, that the week after that is the start of our Beginner class of 2024 (7th March) If you know someone with even a slight interest in square dancing, bring them along.
Another warm night at Northside. The sick list and travellers list is extensive. We had 15 dancers in the hall. Mostly 1 square, but we did do a 6 couple rectangle bracket early on. Well, the weather was a little cooler last night. 19 Mainstream Dancers + 2 new dancers in the hall - 2 squares for most of the night.
Still a lot on the sick list and a few travelling. Keith won the Members Draw - it will reset again. Cheryl was back again - she brought a friend Ken with her - Ken danced with us way back in the Geebung days - great to have him along, he hadn't forgotten a lot.
Sue brought along a friend Alan - we hope he'll join us for our beginner class starting on the 7th March.
Don't forget our 20th Birthday party in 2 weeks time. Will have some photo albums from the old days. There will be raffles and cake.
I believe we will have some visitors from our earlier days. C U there.

Night number 2 of 2024. 15 Mainstream dancers + a new learner Cheryl. We did dance 2 squares just the once.
Tried out my new song "Lucky Star", great dancer reaction - can't wait to release it. Joan won the members draw - it will reset for next week. It's only 4 weeks until we start our new learners class on the 7th March - I have had some interest - even got a phone call about our ad in the local guide after the dance. And it's only 3 weeks until our 20th Birthday party. I have ordered the cake. I'm in the process of organising the raffle prizes, balloons etc. We are expecting some visitors from our early days on the night. I've been going through the books from early days to see who started dancing with us when. It's gonna be a great dance.

1st February 2024
The Square dance year is off and running. We had 19 dancers at Northside last night. Warm, but not as bad as I thought it might be.
The hall has lots of fans and a good cross breeze. It was great to see everybody after the break.
I claim to be a little rusty, but I wasn't the only one - it was lots of fun. We wish all those on the sick list, a speedy recovery.
To all the travellers, get back here and start dancing Faith would have won the members draw - but alas, it will jackpot for next week.
Our 20th Birthday is this month, Party night on the 29th February. Bring a plate - there will be Cake & Raffle prizes.
Also our Beginners course will start on the 7th March - tell anyone who will listen - we need this to be a success.
