What happened at Northside this week?
2024
28th March 2024
Easter Thursday, 4th night of Newer dancers class. Numbers down a little, but quite a successful night. 13 Regular dancers with 8 Learners.
We did get through quite a few new movements. I'm quite happy with how the class is progressing.
I actually forgot to do the members draw, I was too busy concentrating on the dancing - we'll do 2 next week.
Enjoy the Easter break everyone, see you back on the dance floor next Thursday.

3rd Night of the new beginner class. 19 regular club members at the hall with 14 newer dancers. For 6 of those, it was their first night ever. Balancing the teaching of newer dancers and calling for our regular dancers is proving the trickiest part for me to get right. One of the newer dancers came up to me at the end of the night and said he had so much fun and couldn't wait until next week. Diane won the members drawer, so it will reset for next week. Cheryl has decided to join our club and I have ordered her badge. We are dancing next week (Easter Thursday) I thought it was too early to close the club for a public holiday, considering the number of new dancers we have attracted. Thank you to all the club members who have talked their friends into coming along - word of mouth is still the best advertising there is. (We will however, be closing for ANZAC day on the 25th April) but see you all next Thursday (28th March) for more fun.

2nd Night of the Learners class. 17 of our existing dancers were there. Of the 15 newer dancers from last week - 7 were not there this week (but some are planning to be there next week) but we had another 3 brand new dancers this week (although 2 can't be there for the next 2 weeks) so we had 11 newer dancers this week. Getting through quite a bit - the big movement for these nights is Grand Slide - it looks great when they get it. The members draw did not go off, so will jackpot for next week. I want to thank our long time dancers for jumping in and helping with the newer dancers, they do appreciate your help.

Well, what a night at Northside - lots of dancers every where. A combination of magazine ads - word of mouth and one of our dancers advertised on-line with the "stitch" app. We had 40 dancers in the hall. 25 of our club members plus 2 fairly new dancers and 13 brand new learners. Everyone seemed to have a good time, the hall was buzzing all night and I was certainly on a high. First 3/4 of an hour for the new dancers with enthusiastic Angels. Then alternate brackets for the rest of the night. Just so much fun. I don't have a crystal ball - next week will be the proof - how many will come back. Apparently there are still some contacts that could not make last night and we'll see them next week - let's hope. Couldn't ask for a better start to a new class. Thank you to all the club members who jumped in at every opportunity last night to make the new people feel welcome - this is what it's gonna take to keep them dancing.
See the lineup of dancers waiting to pay and then a couple of shots round the hall. Viv won the members draw last night - and now she's off on a cruise for a week for Alan Evan's 50th year of calling. See the pics HERE
Great to have Denice back dancing, she's back after her cruise. Also good to have the Ron back on the dance floor. Best wishes to all our members who are on the sick list, we wish you well in your recoveries.

What great night at our 20th Birthday Party.
(this is also my 30th year of calling) we had over 30 dancers in the hall - we did dance 3 squares a couple of times - but it was a very warm night. We had a number of Visitors for the occasion - June & Howard (Wavell) - Nev, Bev & Sonia (Suncoasters) - Rob & Elaine (Caboolture, but wearing our Badge). Great also to have my daughter Chrissy, Lorna W. and John & Jeanne B - all former club dancers. It was a nice surprise to see Therese & Marty. Unfortunately due to illness & travel, we missed the company of some of our regular dancers, we hope they'll be back soon. We danced easy level up to Plus, everyone looked like they were having fun. The cake looked great and there was plenty of supper. Thanks to everyone who brought a plate. We made it a free night at the door, and so the raffle was well supported by all attendees. Goody won the raffle (again) Marty won 2nd prize (we hadn't seen Marty for some time)
See the photos - 1 with everybody in attendance and a great photo of the 5 who were there on the first night 28th January 2004.
More pictures of the dancers - great to see so many in the club colour BLUE. The night flew by, suddenly it was supper time and then time to go home . Thank you to everyone.

Another warm night at Northside. The sick list and travellers list is extensive. We had 15 dancers in the hall. Mostly 1 square, but we did do a 6 couple rectangle bracket early on. Denice would have won the members draw, but she is one of our travellers. Looking forward to our 20th Birthday party next week. Please bring a plate - Blue is the club colour, so some variation on that theme would be great. There will be cake & raffle prizes. I'm expecting a number of visitors who used to dance with us.
Also remember, that the week after that is the start of our Beginner class of 2024 (7th March) If you know someone with even a slight interest in square dancing, bring them along.

Well, the weather was a little cooler last night. 19 Mainstream Dancers + 2 new dancers in the hall - 2 squares for most of the night.
Still a lot on the sick list and a few travelling. Keith won the Members Draw - it will reset again. Cheryl was back again - she brought a friend Ken with her - Ken danced with us way back in the Geebung days - great to have him along, he hadn't forgotten a lot.
Sue brought along a friend Alan - we hope he'll join us for our beginner class starting on the 7th March.
Don't forget our 20th Birthday party in 2 weeks time. Will have some photo albums from the old days. There will be raffles and cake.
I believe we will have some visitors from our earlier days. C U there.

Night number 2 of 2024. 15 Mainstream dancers + a new learner Cheryl. We did dance 2 squares just the once.
Tried out my new song "Lucky Star", great dancer reaction - can't wait to release it. Joan won the members draw - it will reset for next week. It's only 4 weeks until we start our new learners class on the 7th March - I have had some interest - even got a phone call about our ad in the local guide after the dance. And it's only 3 weeks until our 20th Birthday party. I have ordered the cake. I'm in the process of organising the raffle prizes, balloons etc. We are expecting some visitors from our early days on the night. I've been going through the books from early days to see who started dancing with us when. It's gonna be a great dance.

The Square dance year is off and running. We had 19 dancers at Northside last night. Warm, but not as bad as I thought it might be.
The hall has lots of fans and a good cross breeze. It was great to see everybody after the break.
I claim to be a little rusty, but I wasn't the only one - it was lots of fun. We wish all those on the sick list, a speedy recovery.
To all the travellers, get back here and start dancing Faith would have won the members draw - but alas, it will jackpot for next week.
Our 20th Birthday is this month, Party night on the 29th February. Bring a plate - there will be Cake & Raffle prizes.
Also our Beginners course will start on the 7th March - tell anyone who will listen - we need this to be a success.
