What happened at Northside this week?
2023
Just crunched the numbers for 2023 - we had 42 nights where we actually danced. Our lowest number of dancers was 8 - our highest number was 31. The average number was 19.7 (I don't know how 0.7 of a person dances though). Each and every night was a lot of fun in it's own way. Let's hope the new Ad attracts some new dancers in 2024.
7th December 2023
Northsiders Christmas /Break-Up party last night. 26 Dancers in the hall - but only 2 squares dancing all night. It was quite warm. Unfortunately, we were too busy having fun, I only got a couple of pictures before the dance. The Buffaloes had decorated the hall and I added more on the stage for the night. (see pics). Thanks to all those who brought donations for the Raffle and for the Supper table. With the Raffle prizes the club bought, we ended up with 9 prizes.
Goody won the major Christmas hamper. Hazel won the members draw with Christmas bonus.
Welcome to our new members Enda & Linda - they looked great in their new club badges.
Thanks to Viv (and Eden) for bringing along and organising the refreshing Punch bowl - I enjoyed a few cups.
Great to have Jim & Sharon with us last night, we haven't seen them for a while.
Thanks to Faith for doing the door last night - while it was Free door entry, she did sell a lot of raffle tickets and kept track of who was there. The supper was fabulous, if you didn't get enough to eat, you were not really trying.
A really big thank you to all of you you helped pack up at the end of the night. Thank you all for a successful 2023 - let's hope 2024 is even bigger. We start back on the 1st February and our new dancers class will commence on the 7th March.

Well, it was a little Warm and Humid last night. Still, 23 dancers in the hall, we had a great time. Dance 2 squares most of the time.

Had a great time at Northside last night. 19 dancers in the hall, plus Barry visiting. He's still in a bit of pain.
I arrived feeling a little flat, but calling to the dancers quickly changed my mood.
Great to see Ron & Hazel back on the dancer floor. Still some illness and travellers, keeping numbers down.
Good to have Linda & Enda becoming regulars. Di won the members draw, so it will reset for next week.
Finished the night with a 2 number, 6 couple rectangle bracket.
It's only 2 weeks until our Break-Up/Christmas party on the 7th December.
Please bring a Plate, wear your Christmas finery - we'll have lots of Christmas music and a raffle.

It highlights why the club needs an influx of new dancers for the class next March. We played with Girls/Boys Face, Grand Slide and Reverse Dixie Style to a Wave. Great night at Northside. 24 dancers in the hall - as you can see by the pic, we did dance 3 squares (at least once) Still a few apologies though. We are thinking of our friends who are away with illness. Great to catch up with Wayne & Vicki - I taught them to dance back in 1995 - they would have been in one of my first classes at Caboolture. They have recently returned to square dancing at their residential village where Ron & Hazel also live. They did really well on the dance floor. Maybe we'll see them again. Ron also won the members draw. Played with Reverse Dixie style to an Ocean wave - it went well. Did a couple of Random picks and requests to finish off the night. 4 nights to go until the end of the dance year. 7th of December is our Christmas Party. Please bring a Plate, dress in your favourite Christmas outfit - Christmas Carols galore and there will be a raffle. Remember we are starting our Learners class on the 7th March 2024. It has been a while since we did this - I really need your help to make it a success - The club really needs new members - encourage all your friends/ neighbours to "Come Along & Try".

Great to have Enda & Linda with us again. We also had a visit from Helen. She is planning to start our learners class next year and wanted to see what we did, dancers chatted and made her welcome.
Good to have Scott & Seb with us - Seb even had a dance - it's been a while, so maybe he needs to refresh with our class next year too?
Did a couple of requests and favourites. Di won the members draw, so it will reset for next week.
Only 5 more weeks of dancing this year - Christmas is coming up fast.
Don't forget the Society Christmas party on Saturday - 1pm for the meeting then 2-5pm for dancing - please bring a plate - 6 callers for your dancing enjoyment.
And please canvas your friends and acquaintances re our beginner class in 2024 - it starts the first week of March.

They have danced previously and have come back to dancing post Covid - we hope they will become regulars. Viv would have won the members draw, but in her absence, it will jackpot. Had fun with some very new (released recently) and other very old music (original from 1937). Played with some new choreo combinations. We only have 7 dance nights left this year - Our next party night is our last dance for the year, on December 7th. It will be a Christmas Party - please Bring a Plate - there will be a Raffle - wear your favourite Christmas Outfit - I'll bring plenty of Christmas Songs.

Great to have David & Faith back with us. Also good to have Scott & Sam (+ family) with us.
Darryl would have won the members draw, but "No Badge", so I re-drew it and Viv won.
Did a bracket of Random song picks. The last bracket was requests - Waterloo and Louisiana Man were the songs.
I'm calling at Buderim on Saturday Night, maybe I'll see you there.

Christmas party is the 7th of December. I hope to see many of you at the Shindig this weekend. Also, don't forget the Society Christmas Party is the 4th of November at Thorneside - there is a bus available.

Well, what to say. Thanks to the 10 brave souls who braved the mild weather to come out dancing last night.
We had a great time with just the 1 square.
Keith got to do a bit more than usual, I've told him he can now dance any Mainstream bracket, he's doing great.
I did a few Roger Whittaker songs to recognise his passing this week.
I did a mini work shop - Ends Zoom, Centres Scoot Back from Left Hand Waves - fairly successful.
David would have won the members draw.
Numbers just highlight the fact that we need to have a successful learners class next year.
Make sure you talk to everyone about the class next year.
I'm calling at Buderim for the next 2 Saturdays (30th & 7th) - this week has a FLORAL theme.
The Shindig is on at Gympie in 2 weeks (13-15th). Then I'm at Buderim again on the 21st - plenty of dancing available if you want it.

What a night at Northside. They just kept walking in the door. 25 dancers, yet we never managed 3 squares on the floor. But plenty of fun & laughter, there was a buzz in the hall all night. Great to have Jim & Julie with us again. We'll miss Ron & Hazel while they travel to Canberra. Our learner friend Keith is doing so well, he danced 3 brackets of Mainstream last night. The members draw will continue to jackpot.
Did a couple of random pick Singing call brackets toward the end of the evening. Already looking forward to next week - see you there.

Last night was just fantastic at Northside. 23 dancers in the hall, not quite the 3 squares.
Great to have Jim & Julie from Gumdale visiting with us. Our newer dancer Keith was also there, wearing his new club badge.
Also, 4 brand new dancers came along to see what square dancing was all about. Obviously we gave them a taste of dancing, we're hoping they will form the nucleus of a new class next year. It was a really great atmosphere.
Finally seem to have my new laptop up and running, no funny glitches in the middle of the songs.
The members draw will jackpot for next week. Finished the night with a request bracket.
Upcoming dances: I'm calling at Buderim on the 16th & 30th of September, I'm also calling at Gumdale on the 19th September. Both clubs would love to see visitors. The Shindig is coming up fast - 13th-15th of October, maybe I'll see you there.

Brilliant night for our Rock 'n' Roll Square Dance Party last night. First and foremost - well done to John for his outfit - Full Elvis Jumpsuit, with Wig & Glasses. We had 31 dancers in the hall and we danced 3 squares regularly throughout the night. Thanks to Elaine & Rob for joining us and for Elaine's calling skills. Great to have Peter & Dianne from Burra Squares in Victoria, they are regular visitors to Queensland.
It was an unexpected and pleasant surprise to have Nev & Bev McLachlan join us for the evening - it was their first club visit to Northside. Dancers enjoyed the music of the 50's & 60's. Many chose to dress accordingly. Thanks to all of the dancers who brought a supper contribution, there was plenty to eat. Raffle was well supported, with plenty of prizes. Sandy won the members draw with the party night bonus. Our learner friend Keith came to me at the end of the night, wishing to buy a badge and become a member - Welcome Keith, I look forward to seeing you in a club badge soon. All in all, a fantastic, friendly and fun night was had by everyone in attendance. I did get one complaint - the night was not long enough - And I won't complain about that. I've already hadf a lot of great feedback about the night. It's the people that make these nights - thank to you all - it's the smiling faces that I really enjoy seeing.

First night without the Hall heaters on. We had a fun night at Northside. 19 dancers in the hall eventually.
Great to have Barry & Heather back after their trip across the ditch. Scott & Sam were with us - their son Sebastian as well.
He's in a wheelchair temporarily after a recent scooter accident. Tried out a couple of new songs, they were well received.
Mayet would have won the membership draw, but is unfortunately in hospital at the moment - We all wish her a speedy recovery.
Also wishing Di a quick recovery, we have missed her recently - and a big thank you to Mike for still coming to do the door anyway.

Another fun night at Northside. 21 dancers in the hall. Really good to have Bill & Joan back on the dance floor after recent illness. Not only that, Joan won the members draw. We played with Girls Face/Boys Face Grand Slide - Lots of fun watching it happen! Another fun night at Northside. 21 dancers in the hall. Really good to have Bill & Joan back on the dance floor after recent illness. Not only that, Joan won the members draw. We played with Girls Face/Boys Face Grand Slide - Lots of fun watching it happen! Had a great time at Northside last night. A few away due to the State Convention this weekend. Still had 18 dancers in the hall. 2 squares for a lot of the night.
Great to have Elaine & Rob with us. Also great to have Frances and John from Lismore (ish) with us.
Of course, we had Elaine & Frances up on stage calling - makes a nice change from the regular caller. Keith is doing a great job learning the calls "on the fly".
Elaine and I finished the night with a 2 number duet bracket.
Therese would have won the members draw, but it will jackpot for next week.
Don't forget our Rock 'n' Roll Party night on the 31st August. Bring a plate, there will be a raffle and lots of Music from the era - dress the part.

We played with a routine - Parallel waves - Ends Zoom while the Centres Scoot Back - it went well.

What a great night at Northside. We only had 14 dancers but a thoroughly enjoyable night.
Obviously, we only danced 1 square all night, except for the 6 couple rectangle bracket.
Tried out my new song that will be released with my vocal in the coming month or so.
Did a few requests and random song picks.
It was great to have a couple of visitors. We haven't seen Sam & Scott for years - they certainly energised the floor.
Darryl won the members draw, it will reset for next week.
We hope the travellers will be back by then and those on the sick list will have recovered.

Bit of a contrast to last week - 13 dancers in the hall - we danced 1 square all night - we did a learner bracket for our new friend Keith, who is learning at another club. The members draw did not go off and will jackpot for next week. Dave & Sandy have decided to join the club, I have their badges, they'll be wearing them next week. We finished the night with a 6 couple rectangle bracket. Let's hope numbers improve for next week.

Superlatives escape me. Just a really great dance night at Northside last night. "Red for Love" was the theme - the dancers looked great in their red outfits. Lots of visitors from other clubs - Gumdale Grandsliders & Alan's Allemanders. We had 31 dancers in the hall - not quite 4 squares, but we did dance 3 squares a lot of the night. Also good the have Martin & Jeannette with us for the night.The members draw was won by Viv. The major raffle prize (Fruit & Veg tray) was taken home by Barry B. Minor prizes won By Darryl & Dave. Thanks for one of the Raffle prize donations by David & Faith. Great to have Keith with us again. He's had 2 lessons at Kay's club - we have been doing 1 bracket for him. Thank you to all those that brought a plate for supper - there was certainly plenty to eat. Thanks to our ever reliable door Man Mike for his efforts each week and also thanks to Faith for selling all the raffle tickets. It was a fabulous night that seemed to be over too soon. There were plenty of love song Hoedowns & Singing Calls - really didn't even scratch the surface of the range of songs I have. Thanks for a great night - it really is the people that make it an enjoyable night. Also welcome to Sandy & Dave who have decided to buy a badge & become club members.

Finished the night with a request bracket. 3 weeks until our "Wear Red for Love" party night on the 29th of June. Also, it's only 8 weeks until the State Convention at Buderim, have you registered?

Travel & illness still keeping numbers down a little. 17 dancers in the hall - we did dance 2 squares for a lot of the night.
Great to have Lorraine (Society Secretary) with us. We did dance a 6 couple rectangle for 1 bracket.
Called the song "Proud Mary" as a tribute to Tina Turner.
Tried out a couple of new songs "Honeycomb" and "What do you wanna make those eyes at me For" both appreciated by the dancers. Also did a Neil Diamond bracket by request.
Members draw will continue to jackpot. Keep our Red/Love Party night in mind for the 29th of June.

19 Dancers in attendance - so 2 squares for about 1/2 of the night. Tried out a couple of new releases "Moonlight Swim" on KDM and "Everybody's reaching out for Someone" on ESP - both went well. Sharyn would have won the member draw, but it will keep jackpotting. Good to see Elsa back after her trip to England and good to see David & Faith back on the dance floor. Finished the night with a request Bracket. Our next Party night is Thursday the 29th of June with a "Wear Red for Love" dance. Bring a plate and there will be a raffle. Love songs all night.

Mayet was busy going through my Singing Call list to find songs she wanted to hear, We did a few of them last night. Did a bracket of Harry Belafonte songs to mark his passing. Another interesting bracket was the "Devil Woman" bracket. The Cliff Richard version and the Marty Robbins version in one bracket - 2 totally different songs. David would have won the members draw, but it will jackpot to $20 next week. Last song of the night was Roger Millers "King of the Road". Maybe if you have nothing planned on Saturday night - you might consider visiting Buderim.
I'm calling for their "Black & White" theme night. Plus at 7pm - Mainstream at 7.30pm.

Great to have Arthur with us. Did a quick workshop on "Reverse Dixie Style to an O/W", it went well.
Rob D. would have won the members draw, but he's at the National Convention in Adelaide.
Tried out a new Gospel tune that I've been asked to do a vocal for. Finished the night with a request bracket.

Great to see you all in your Blue Outfits (see picture) The Music was with a Blue Theme. Blues type music, Blue in the Title or in the Lyrics or some other Blue association, ie Sweet Home Chicago is from "The Blues Bros." movie.

Well, how hot was it last night? Thanks to the 14 stalwarts who braved the excessive temperature to dance at Northside last night.
Obviously, 1 square all night. Jim would have won the members draw, but it will continue to jackpot.
Quite a few dancers in green for St Paddy's day - I wore my Leprechaun hat and Shamrock sunglasses and did a couple of Traditional tunes. Great to have Chris back with us - I'm sure numbers will be back to normal soon.
Don't forget the Society AGM on Saturday - meeting 1.30pm, dancing after that until 4pm.

Obviously, 1 square all night. Jim would have won the members draw, but it will continue to jackpot.
Quite a few dancers in green for St Paddy's day - I wore my Leprechaun hat and Shamrock sunglasses and did a couple of Traditional tunes. Great to have Chris back with us - I'm sure numbers will be back to normal soon.
Don't forget the Society AGM on Saturday - meeting 1.30pm, dancing after that until 4pm.
It's only 2 weeks now until our first party night. 30th March, Wear Something Blue - I have plenty of Blue or Blues music for the night.
Please bring a plate and there will be a raffle.

Well, what to say about last night. A perfect storm of illness, travel and family commitments conspired to keep numbers low. 8 dancers in the hall - so 1 square. No members draw and we finished very early because everyone had to dance every bracket. Thanks to Faith for being there to do the door. Only 3 weeks until our "Wear Something Blue" party night. Please bring a plate.

Fabulous night at Northside last night.
We danced 2 squares for the Plus, and nearly all of the Mainstream. 23 dancers in the hall.
Welcome to our new members Anthony & Tara - They look great in their new club badges and they are also now in the members draw.
Did a few Rock 'n' Roll numbers - Elvis & Buddy Holly.
Heather P. would have won the members draw, but she is off gallivanting on the high seas.
Finished the night with a couple of requests.

Another fabulous night at Northside. Nice that the heat is not as bad.
Everybody arrived early, so we started Plus a bit early. We danced 2 squares all night for all but 1 bracket.

Finished the night with "Rocky Top" and "Lord of the Dance."

Great night at Northside. So many of the dancers back from various medical issues. We danced 2 squares for Plus.
A total of 29 dancers through the door, we did dance 3 squares for the first half of the Mainstream.
Still a few dancers have not yet returned yet this year. Wonderful to have Helen & Chris join us for the first time.
Did a few new songs as well as a few random picks and requests.
Hazel won the members draw, it will reset for next week. It's great being on stage watching everybody have a good time.

Had a really good time at Northside last night. The heat has backed off a little. We started the Plus a little early with 2 squares. The Mainstream was 2 squares all night except for the last bracket. We had 23 dancers in the hall. Great to welcome Anthony Habler (yes, his father was a caller) and his Partner Tara along for the first time. We will have Tara dancing full Mainstream very shortly. Great to have Mike & Di back after their travels. Great to see Sue E. back on the dance floor too. Still a few we haven't seen this year yet, due to medical issues. Dancers are enjoying the new music I bought in the break. The members draw jackpots again, Sheryl T. would have won, had she been there. I hope to see a few members at the Logan Birthday celebration this weekend.
Remember, the State Convention is at Buderim again this year, get your registrations in.

Wow, how hot was it last night? First night of dancing for the year. Great to see 2 squares on the floor for Plus, ready to go 10 minutes early. Later on we started Mainstream with 2 squares, but went to one due to the heat. We had 18 dancers through the door - plenty of apologies for various reasons, they'll be back soon. I tried out a few new songs that I acquired over the break. Dancers weren't as rusty as they thought they might be. Great to see Lyndel back on the dance floor after a looong break. Liz would have won the members draw, but was absent, it will jackpot. All in all, great to be back on the dance floor for 2023.
